Today is a more romantic day for me than Valentine's Day. 8 years ago today Roger asked me to marry him. It was not a surprise to me that we would get married, but the actual engagement, ring and family party to follow was a HUGE surprise. It was the first time our families met. It was the beginning of God cementing our lives together as one.
8 years later I have to say that in my wildest imagination I could not have come close to describing the life we have now. It has experienced more loss and been more painful than I imagined. It has also been more loving and grace-filled than I could have ever designed.
In one sense I am very sad to not be able to communicate with him today (he's on a flight now from Nairobi to Amsterdam) and wish he was home. But when I really think about it I feel pretty proud to be the wife of a man who has given his life to spread the Gospel all over the world. I'd take that over a predictable anniversary dinner at Outback anyday.
Thank you, God, for being faithful to Your plan for my life. Thank you for uniting me with a man that loves you and longs to release Your character in his life. Thank you for the hard times that have taught us to trust You more. Thank you for the sweet times that have given us unbelievable laughter and joy. Thank you for the blessings of our children. What a gift You have given us! Thank you for giving me a partner in life who loves You more than He loves me. And, in that, I am deeply loved.

I love this post, Becca!! I have always loved how much Roger loved and served the Lord. I have looked up to him and learned so much from him in that way. And it makes my heart smile to see that God brought the two of you together and gave you this precious journey. Happy 8 year anniversary!!!

I remember that night vividly. We were so excited..Do you remember Bethany's toast? We all miss two that were there but with God's grace press on. I am blessed to have you as a daughter-in-love and have you as the terrific mother of my grandchildren. It is great to be down the street and around the corner watching this love affair.
